Dupont, Michel

Michel Dupont was born in Montreal, on February 16th, 1950.

Self-taught, Dupont is very creative and experiments with many different printing techniques. At the end of the 1970’s, he became known for his silk-screens in which harmony and serenity prevail.

Since the end of the 1980’s, his creative process has focused primarily on hand-made paper. He molds raw, crushed cotton pulp to create sculptural forms or simply presses the paper to produce a pictorial expanse ready to become a medium for pigment. His handmade paper art is based on ancient bas relief techniques. He works its surface in a way that is reminiscent of engraving and his solid strokes impulsively etch hieroglyphic-like symbols into the paper, creating texture, shadow and rhythm.
