St-Amand, Julie

Julie St-Amand lives and works in Quebec City. She has a master of Fine Arts and studied in Quebec, Montreal and France.

Her encaustic paintings are inspired by the city’s architectural landscape that surrounds her day to day life. The passing of time and the force of the weather transform exterior material. These transformations leave their marks on the surface of buildings, on bridges and on passing trains… All theses markings convey a sense of mystery. In this sense, the city never ceases to renew itself and inspire St-Amand’s painting practice.

Working with encaustic enables St-Amand to recreate the physical and chemical effects of the force of the weather on the canvas. “At work in my studio, I can inflict on the surface of the canvas theses amazing transformations such as the ones inflicted by time and the weather on the city.”

Julie St-Amand’s paintings are in several private and public collections in Québec, Canada and the United States.
